Park Rapids Flower & Garden Show
Welcome spring at the 2nd Annual Park Rapids Flower & Garden Home Show Saturday and Sunday, April 26 & 27 at Armory Square. The armory is partnering with the Downtown Business Association and Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce to make it a "Downtown Showcase" event welcoming the change in seasons and everyone who is back after a long, hard winter. The show is free and open to the public. Hours Saturday will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a free matinee concert performance starting at noon Saturday featuring "Unpolished," a local bluegrass and roots music band, and starting at noon Sunday, a special appearance by harpists Marja Healy and Jeff Turner.
PRDBA photo contest
The deadline for the winter/spring Park Rapids Downtown Business Association photo contest is Wednesday, April 30. Max Bailey Photography sponsors the contest and awards a professionally finished, 11X14-inch print of the winning photograph in each of three categories: Park Rapids Area Lake Scenes, Recreation and Wildlife and Main Street Scenes. Amateur and professional photographers are welcome to participate. Contest rules, guidelines and the photo entry form are on our website. The contest is intended to capture and celebrate the beauty and unique character of Park Rapids and the surrounding area.
Nemeth Art Center opens
The Nemeth Art Center opens for the season Thursday, May 1. A reception is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10 in honor of paper artists Kelli Sinner, Patrick Vincent and Lauren Kinney whose works will be on display in May. The reception also will recognize participants in the Members’ Show May 1-15. This show features work made by and from the personal collections of NAC members. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. For more information, go to www.nemethartcenter.org.
Heartland Concert Series: Les Trompettes De Lyon
Les Trompettes De Lyon will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 19 at the Park Rapids Area High School Auditorium with admission by season ticket. Since 1989, five musicians trained in the academies of music and universities of Lyon, France, have been composing music and performing. They perform with lightness, smartness and brilliance through all ages, forms and tones of their trumpets and provide an entertaining and humorous show. Lake Superior Zoomobile Program
When the Lake Superior Zoomobile arrives, you will have a chance to see animals up close and learn about their traits and behaviors. The program will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4 at the Park Rapids Area Library, 210 1st Street West.
Tails on the Trail
The Headwaters Animal Shelter is sponsoring the 6th annual walkathon and pet expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14 - rain or shine - at Heartland Park in Park Rapids. The event features a two-mile walk to raise money for ongoing support of Shelter programs. Each registered dog will receive a bandana and there will be prizes for the humans who raise the most money. The pet expo will include exhibitors, vendors, food and fun. The schedule also holds a scavenger hunt for kids, doggie musical chairs and a look-a-like contest.
