The Living Roots of Music
Lauren Pelon's "The Living Roots of Music" will be coming to Armory Square at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, thanks to Legacy funds allocated to Kitchigami Regional Library. Pelon will perform music from the 1st to the 21st centuries on familiar and less familiar instruments as well as vocals. She traces the story of music and tells stories about the development of instruments throughout history. Her program features music from ancient Greece, medieval and renaissance Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. "This performance offers not only an opportunity to listen to music, but also a way to think about how music has affected the lives of people all over the world from ancient times to our own modern day," Pelon says. She has performed in concerts throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Russia and China. She has also performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras, on television specials and on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion." The concert is free. Tickets are available at the Park Rapids Area Library so adequate seating can be arranged.
